The custom of eating fish is connected to the religious Roman-Catholic tradition of refraining from consuming meat during the holidays. "Why seven fish for dinner?" For many, the tradition reflects the Seven Sacraments and for others the Seven Days of Creation. For the extremely poor Italian-Americans, that left Southern Italy in the late 1800's and early 1900's, seven happened to be a symbol of wealth. It was the way to celebrate their success in America. Please join us for a true celebration of Christmas Eve: the Italian way.
